Before
After
Sometimes it's hard to imagine what original contractors
were thinking. Probably the single greatest reward to
remodeling is to correct flaws or oddities in original construction.
In this case, it was an air handler closet with an off-center, 3/4 height
door and an even more off-center, crooked, undersized air return. A
full-height door with an iron grill was a great solution.
No one notices a well-hung door, but everyone's aware of one that's not
hung properly: it's hard to close or open, or it opens on its
own. Even pre-hung doors are far from simple to hang, as the
walls they go into are never plumb and true. A good casement covers a
multitude of sins.
